Saicho (最澄, Saichō) is a member of Team Kuu, as well as it's second in command.

Saicho has a frail, and somewhat feminine look to himself, and has been mistaken for a girl at times in the series. His black hair is somewhat long, and hangs over the right side of his face. He wears a standard martial arts gi with paper folded around his torso.

He briefly lent his gi to Fuko to cover herself after Fujimaru strips most of her clothes bit by bit in their battle that renders her in a strapless ripped blue bra and panties with black linings which he formally apologizes to her for Fujimaru's awful behavior while treating her injured arm using his paper as bandages. The paper bandages on his torso is revealed to cover his chest wound after he was previously stabbed by one of the corrupted Ku students which makes him limit to fight.

He is a good natured, respectful, and friendly teenager. He is extremely devoted to Team Kuu, as his primary motivation for fighting is to prove that his team is not a low level group of thugs and assassins, but fighters who seek pure strength for the sake of strength. Despite being such a powerful fighter at his age, Saicho dislikes causing unnecessary harm to his enemies in battle and seeks to avoid pointless bloodshed. He is good friends with Kukai's daughter Misora (Kukai even suggested that the two get married).

Abilities and Techniques

Expert Hand-to-hand Combatant: Saicho is an incredible martial artist who was capable of fighting on even terms with Recca, and even wounding him in close combat.

Saicho's true power lies in his madogu, Shikigami, which allows him to control paper. By using incantations, Saicho was able to create several kinds of attacks using the Shikigami.

Paper Crane
PaperCrane Saichō creates an origami crane that can fly towards an enemy and then explode.
Fuyo Sword
FuyoSword A technique that allows Saichō to transform a spiral of paper into a strong katana. The katana, although made of paper, cannot be damaged because of how much of his aura is imbedded in the paper.
Cyclone Paper Dance
PaperDance A technique that uses swirling paper strips to wrap around an object. Or in case of the next attack, people.
Kamienbu A variation of the Cyclone Paper Dance that wraps a person up like a mummy.
Nuno Zarashin
NunoZarashin A technique that creates large spirals of paper which generate a strong enough wind to deflect nearly any projectile.
Thousand Cranes
ThousandCranes Misora, Kukai's daughter, made Saichō a thousand origami cranes before he left for Ura Butō Satsujin III. Each crane can fly of its own accord and is as strong as several of his normal ones, capable of taking off the roof of the arena of the Ura Butō Satsujin. Saichō planned on using this as his final attack, putting all of his life force into it.
Rokka Sen
RokkaSen A technique where Saichō folds up 6 differently shaped origami pieces and flinging them at his foe, where they then embed themselves. Each of the six is named after a famous Japanese philosopher.
